The Personal Narrative
Personal narrative digital stories are typically short videos about 3-5 minutes long. Writing about a person, place, or an event in the author’s life and focusing on the moment of transformation and resolution are common themes in the personal narrative. The StoryCenter has additional resources about other common themes and ideas for stories. Below is a link students can use to help them find their personal narrative workflow.
The Documentary
A documentary style digital story is one in which you will investigate a topic, documenting your experience learning about the topic, and interviewing people about the topic. With the interviews that you gather, you might choose interviewees who have similar view points or opposing view points, whatever you feel best documents your investigation and tells the story of the topic. The documentary story will likely include your voice, in terms of video or audio excerpts that you record about your experience documenting your investigation mixed with interviews you gathered and edited into your story.
